January 30 Writing Exercises

Here are the exercises we did on Jan. 30th at the CAE (in between getting in trouble from the nearby lecturer).

Write Now – What’s Under the Surface pg 1

Write Now – What’s Under the Surface pg 2

We also did Hot Seat, where people answered questions as if they were one of their own characters. Some of the questions planned/asked were:

– What’s your earliest childhood memory? (How old are you?)

– Do you get along with your family? Who are you closest to?

– What’s your idea of a dream vacation?

– If you could have any (other) job, what would it be?

– Who do you consider your hero?

– What do you do in your spare time?

– You have an object in your hands, what is it? Why did you steal it?

See you on 27 Feb at 6.30pm for the next one.

Perils and pitfalls of contracts

Hi all,

I’ve just been reading the most eye-opening blogs about authors trying to reclaim their rights to their own works, and this led on to an even more amazing (also horrifying) blog about contracts. I really recommend anyone contemplating engaging an agent or publisher to handle their work should read these blogs; they’ll definitely help you out.

I have just realised that the piece I am writing requires research. And not just research, reading the bible! Why oh why did I choose a society based on strict religious rules. Gah, my holiday reading is not going to be as much fun as I’d hoped

Hello, Adnovs!

Thanks for setting this up, Paula.

I have a link to a really interesting blog called Passive Voice. They have heaps of advice and stories about publishing, both through traditional and self publishing methods. Go here.

Have a great Christmas everyone,

A post from Stacey

Hello lovely Adnovs!  Here is a test post to give it a go.  I haven’t written today because I’ve been busy trying to entice a new housemate and visiting my Grandma.  I did however have a little practice on my new cello.  I will do some writing tomorrow and let you know about it. 🙂
